Say Hello to RMRKBL
Good ideas die every day. In meetings, conference calls, presentations, at the coffee machine, during status, almost everywhere, there are sparks of genius and excitement that the world dampens. As humans, we come by it naturally. We are drawn to the safe and familiar, it feels more comfortable, which our instincts tell us should translate into smarter. But too often it results in average, uninspiring and consensus-driven ideas. Yet, people don’t rave about average; they barely even notice it. And in today’s hyper-competitive economy, average equals irrelevant. So how do we do a better job of insulating our ideas to give them the potential to create a positive impact on the world? To solve big problems, or maybe just little ones. And in the process, can we future proof ourselves through future-proofing our ideas?
As a dad, I think a lot about setting my kids up for success in a changing world. I don’t know what it will look like to start building a career in 10 years, I don’t even know what they’ll want to do, but I do know their world will be very different. Artificial intelligence, machine learning and other advances will transform how we add value and engage with the world around us. The only thing that I feel is certain is that human creativity and the power of an idea will become even more important. We will always need creative and transformational ideas and they will be born and championed in this world by remarkable people. In an ideas economy, they will be the sought after.
With ideas as the new currency, an essential skill becomes the ability to package up and translate ideas into inspiration that changes human behavior. To communicate with such clarity and influence that ideas can rise above resistance and clutter to create a meaningful impact. And to do it with consistency and scale.
